About Us

Welcome to ASMET, the African Satellite Meteorology Education and Training project. 

This website helps you stay up to date with the ASMET news, activities (such as training courses or webinars) and resources (such lessons or case studies etc.). We advertise here upcoming training events and we publish case studies created by participants in courses. The landing page of the site allows you to browse all content by region, language or weather type.

Also very importantly, ASMET produces free, self-paced online learning resources that teach African forecasters how to enhance their forecasts by making better use of meteorological satellite images and products. Lessons are published on the MetEd site. These are completely free for you to use. Registation on the MetEd site is required to gain free access to the resources.

The lessons are produced by the ASMET team, which consists of meteorology instructors from:

• South African Weather Service (Pretoria), 
• Institute for Meteorological Training and Research (Kenya), 
• EAMAC/ASECNA (Niger),
• Morocco National Meteorology Department or DNM (Morocco)
• EUMETSAT (Germany) and
• The COMET^® Program (UCAR, USA).
